Podcast Name Generator

Tell it what your show is about, who it is for and what an episode sounds like, and get a shortlist in the five ways real shows are named. Every name is checked for length, keyword stuffing and a clash with the 408 shows in our directory. No sign-up, no AI, nothing stored.

Two or three words a listener would search for. Not a sentence.

Plural, the way they would describe themselves.

Only if you want names that carry it.

How it works

  1. 1

    Say what it is about

The two or three words a listener would search for, and who the show is for.

  2. 2

    Pick the format

Interviews, solo, co-hosted or stories. It changes which names fit.

  3. 3

    Say the shortlist out loud

Copy the ones that survive, then check the favourite in Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

How 408 established shows are named

We read the names of every show in our podcast directory, the most established shows across 17 niches. The name is the part before any colon, pipe or dash; the rest is a subtitle.

9 in 10 names are at most34 characters
Add a subtitle after a colon, pipe or dash105 (26%)
Carry the host's or publisher's name109 (27%)

Include the word “podcast”77 (19%)

The takeaway is short. The typical established name is 3 words, and the long titles are mostly not long names: of the 129 listing titles over 34 characters, 97 are a short name with a subtitle bolted on. The generator writes names in five styles:

  • Says the subject. A listener searching the topic finds it, and knows what it is.
  • Names the listener. The person it is for sees themselves in the title.
  • Makes a promise. Says what the listener leaves with.
  • Says the format. Tells a browser what an episode sounds like.
  • Carries your name. Builds you, not just the show. Hard to hand over later.

After the name

The name is the first setup decision of many; the equipment, hosting and launch steps are in how to make a podcast. If you are not sure the subject is narrow enough, read how to pick a podcast niche first. And if it is an interview show, the interview podcast guide covers finding and booking the first guests.

Frequently asked questions

How do I come up with a name for my podcast?+

Start from the two or three words a listener would search for, then decide what else the name should carry: who it is for, what they leave with, what an episode sounds like, or your own name. Write ten, say each one out loud, and keep the one a stranger could spell after hearing it once.

How long should a podcast name be?+

Short. Across the 408 shows in our directory the median name is 21 characters and 3 words, and nine in ten are 34 characters or fewer before any subtitle. Longer names get cut off in podcast app grids and on lock screens.

Should I put the word “podcast” in my podcast name?+

You can, and 19% of the shows in our directory do. It does no harm, but it does no work either: the app already tells people it is a podcast, so those words are usually better spent on the subject.

Should I name my podcast after myself?+

Only if you are the reason people will listen. 27% of the shows in our directory carry the name of their host or publisher, and most of those are people or brands with an audience already. A name built on the subject is easier to find, and easier to hand to a co-host or sell later.

How do I check if a podcast name is taken?+

Search the exact name in Apple Podcasts and Spotify, then run a trademark search in your country before you pay for artwork. This tool checks our own directory of established shows, which catches the obvious clashes, but it is not a clearance.

Is this podcast name generator free, and does it use AI?+

It is free with no sign-up, and it does not use a language model. It builds names from your own words using the patterns real shows use, in your browser: nothing you type is sent to a server or stored.
